What to expect
Over the course of 8 sessions, we’ll help you understand how your body responds to stress and why. You’ll learn new ways to manage stress with the guidance of a professional. By the end of your sessions, you’ll be able to recognize your stress triggers and change how you react to them, creating lasting habits that match the goals you set at the start.
In our first session, we’ll review your intake form, work together to set 5-10 behavioral goals, and create a personal mantra or vision statement that will help guide our future work. You’ll also receive a deeper understanding of the “neurobiological adaptive stress response”, your nervous system's learned way of responding to stressful situations. This will help us identify your unique stress patterns, also called stress families. By the end of this session, we’ll have a customized plan for the remaining 7 sessions based on your lifestyle and goals.

In the following sessions, you’ll learn techniques tailored to your stress patterns, such as breathing exercises and stress recognition in real time. Earlier sessions focus on building awareness of your specific reactions to stress. The following sessions involve learning how to recognize these reactions as the stressor occurs. You’ll also have more supervised practice of the techniques. Later sessions involve reflecting on recent stressors and adjusting your responses in real-time, with guidance. Between visits, you can expect weekly homework assignments to help further your mastery of these techniques. If you find you need more support after your 8 sessions or are experiencing a stressful time in your life, you can schedule a follow-up mind-body maintenance call to help maintain your progress or get you back on track.

Disclaimer: In our sessions, you can share past experiences if you choose, but the focus is on how you're currently reacting to stress. We never ask you to share traumatic or stressful events, but we will ask you to think back to a time of a stressful event. Emotional responses may arise naturally during this time, and we’ll be there to guide and support you through them.
